Pentagon: North Korea's ICBM was a new type of missile that 'we've not seen before' - Reuters

According to Reuters, Pentagon said that the ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) North Korea launched was a new type of missile that they haven't seen before. 

Earlier in the day, North Korea claimed that the missile was capable of carrying a large nuclear warhead.
