ECB's Coeure: Negative deposit rates are a 'possibility'

FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - In an interview for CNBC on Tuesday ECB Executive Board member Benoit Coeure said that the Governing Council had discussed negative deposit rates and that there was a possibility of introducing them.

"We have been clear that it has been both discussed technically and investigated legally, so the ECB is ready," Coeure said, adding however that the negative deposit rates were just one of the tools at the disposal of the central bank.

The ECB policymaker assured that he was not worried about deflation in the Eurozone, as he expects a recovery of growth and a gradual rise of inflation towards the bank's 2% target.
