Barroso urges the US to resolve debt problems
FXstreet.com (Barcelona) - European Commission president José Manuel Barroso said today in an interview for Reuters that the US should sort out the debt ceiling issue as soon as possible, as prolonged economic uncertainty could seriously damage its credibility.
“I hope that American democracy will work and will deliver what I think is critically important, not only for America but also for the world, because of the size and the impact of the American economy in the world,” Barroso said. He emphasized that global growth could be boosted only if confidence of investors remains unwavering.
Furthermore, the European Commission chief commented on the recent developments in the US spying scandal, saying that it is a very sensitive matter and that “it should be addressed in a way that gives reassurances that can build trust between the United States and Europe.”
